Heal
But what does that look like? How does one heal?
Sometimes, healing is easier said than done. The process to heal often causes pain. What irony! Sometimes, you have to relive trauma when you have to recount the thing that broke you. Sometimes, you have to do the hard and humbling work of admitting and owning the choices you made that contributed to your condition.
But always there is some sort of breakdown that leads to a breakthrough from which you can begin the process of recovery and total restoration.
Breakdown to breakthrough
I tell you; healing is not for the faint of heart. But society would be so much better for it if the down and broken could be brave enough to do the work, with proper guidance of course. Can’t just be out here all willy-nilly trying to heal in ways that only mask the pain, leaving your soul weighed down with true peace never attained.
If you will, just imagine how one could show up in the world.
Instead of being someone that sucks the energy out of the room, you could give life.
Instead of being a visitor who darkens a door, you would alleviate strife.
Instead of being seen as an angry, bitter woman who is only used for one thing, you could be seen as someone’s potential wife.
Instead of seeming like a man mad at the world with no accountability or self-governance, you could be seen as friend, lover, protector and husband capable of providing a stable foundation.
Instead, you could be a mother that rears her children with a patient nurturing tone, rather than as a mom speaking harshly and yelling at the top of her lungs.
Instead, you could be a father treating your child and its mother as beings to protect and love gently rather than ruling with the abuse of an iron fist and harsh tongue.
Instead, you could show up whole as your authentic self over hiding behind drugs, alcohol, or some other self-harming addiction.
Let go of negative afflictions
These are just a few examples of the freedoms attainable and real. If only you could take a moment to obtain peace of mind by sitting down somewhere and just be still. Alas, this will only come when you’re too worn out from always battling uphill.
Then I guess, that’s when your hand is forced to do the heroic work that eventually compels you to heal.
